Thorncliffe Bowling Club News
New Lifetime Member of Thorncliffe Bowling Club
Some people view Friday 13th with a certain amount of trepidation, but Friday 13th March was a special day for a special Thorncliffe member, Doris Bodman. Far be it for me to reveal a lady's age, but I can reveal that Doris's BCGBA registration number is the earliest, by some considerable margin, registered member within Thorncliffe Bowling Club.
Doris first started her involvement with the bowling club by supporting her husband George. At that time there was no ladies team. Doris and other ladies just enjoyed a leisurely game and probably did all the back ground work for the men, especially baking cakes etc. and making the drinks. Definitely a different era from today!
Not to be outdone the ladies then began organising the first official ladies team and the rest as you say is history. Doris, as one of the founder members, was always involved in helping with the various jobs and presentation events.
As time passed Doris was always welcoming new members and with her husband would give all the help and advice required.
As all new members know, it makes a big difference to have someone supporting you and Doris was always the first in that role.
In recognition of her contribution to the Bowling Club over such a long period, Ladies Secretary, Joan Ramage had great pleasure in awarding Doris Lifetime Membership of Thorncliffe Bowling Club.
