The Memorable Weather of the 2019 Season
When we come to look back at the weather of the 2019 season will we remember those grey freezing cold evenings of April?
or the record breaking heat of 25 July?
or the unpredictable heavy rains of June and July?
The photos taken by Jane Norman at Thorncliffe, and Alan Loveday at Fulwood, on Tuesday 30 July 2019, show just how much rain fell in a short period of time. The difference in the two photos are that the Thorncliffe picture was taken during the evening match. The players came of the green (you can still see where the woods were), waited 20 minutes and the green drained sufficiently to allow the match to finish. The Fulwood picture was taken in the afternoon on the same day, before even more heavy rain hit in the evening. The poorer drainage of the Fulwood green of course meant that no play was possible and resulted in yet another postponed match.
