Thorncliffe Bowling Club News
Thorncliffe's New Lady Champion
It seemed like another ordinary day when I received a call from one of our Thorncliffe members. "Have I got some extraordinary news" he said. "Go on then, surprise me" I replied. But I was not only surprised when he gave me the news, I was genuinely pleased. On Wednesday 1st August 2018 (Yorkshire Day) Thorncliffe member Joan Ramage had WON the Sheffield & District Parks Bowling Association Lady Veterans Individual Merit for 2018.
Joan qualified from the Lady Veterans qualifiers round on the Monday, and on the Wednesday beat Jane Richardson (Crooksmoor B.C.) in the quarter final, beating Janette Tizzard (Meersbrook Park B.C.) in the semi-final, and success came in the final by beating Sue Hill (Meersbrook B.C.).
Just for good measure the following day Joan reached the semi-final of the Ladies Individual Merit, and so received yet another prize!
Joan said "It feels marvellous to win at last"
Joan is a modest person off the green, but on the green transforms into a totally focussed player, always looking to win. 2018 marks the year when she is recognised as the best Lady Veteran player in Sheffield.
