Thorncliffe receives new Defibrillator
What have Steve Beatson, Keith Booth, Lynn Duncombe, Ian Hague, Ann Hartley, Robert Hartley, John Sage, Judith Thompson, and Kerry Wragg got in common - other than a love of crown green bowls? Well, back on 4th October last year, they were all present and correct at The Staindrop Lodge Hotel, and slightly apprehensive. They had volunteered for training to be carried out by the NHS Yorkshire Ambulance Service. All the volunteers passed their training for AED & BLS (Automated External Defibrillator & Basic Life Support), and all the certificates have now been issued.

The training was a condition of a deal offered by the Westfield Health Charitable Trust for local sporting organisations that, on condition of satisfactorily completing training by Yorkshire Ambulance, at a cost of £400, they would provide, FREE, a defibrillator for the club. Thorncliffe Bowling Club's Funding Co-ordinator, Lynn Duncombe, was successful in securing a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All to cover all the cost of the training.

Thorncliffe Chairman, Ian Hague, said "It's tremendous that we now have on site an appliance that can literally mean the difference between life and death, and I sincerely wish that we are never called upon to use it. Knowing it is there, and that we are likely to have trained personnel close at hand to use it, is very reassuring"
