Thorncliffe ex-member dies in M1 crash
Elizabeth Harrison, 86, of Roper Lane, Thurgoland, was a rear seat passenger in a Nissan Qashqai involved in a collision on the southbound carriageway at around 2:15pm on Saturday, 30th December. The incident occurred between junction 29 for Chesterfield and junction 28 for Alfreton.

Elizabeth was taken to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital by Air Ambulance, but sadly died in hospital.

A 90-year-old passenger in the same vehicle, believed to be her husband, Roy, who was transported by road ambulance, remains there in a critical condition.

It is understood one of the couple's children had been on a visit to the UK from their home in Spain for the festive period, with the couple travelling to see another of their children when the collision occurred.

Elizabeth was probably better know to Thorncliffe members as Betty, and was a member until 2015.

Anyone with information should send Derbyshire police a message online by visiting You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I am sure that all Thorncliffe members would like to extend their condolences and sympathies to Betty's family.
